This year, Adapt Kerry has provided vital support to women and children in need across the county. Our services include refuge accommodation, outreach support, court accompaniment, legal advocacy, and therapeutic programmes for women and children. Here’s a snapshot of our impact in 2024:
- 55 women have been admitted to our refuge.
- 59 children have stayed with their mothers in refuge.
- We’ve had 484 individual contacts with women seeking support.
- 243 women have met with an Outreach Worker, with 121 of them availing of court accompaniment.
- 180 women have accessed our legal advocacy service.
- 82 women have used our drop-in service at the refuge.
Unfortunately, on 142 occasions, our refuge was full when a woman sought space. In these cases, we provided referrals to other refuges, connected women with our Outreach Support Worker, and collaboratively created safety plans. These plans might include accessing orders under the Domestic Violence Act, or seeking temporary safety with friends or family until refuge space became available.
Looking Ahead to 2025
We anticipate supporting 500 women across Kerry in 2025 as we continue to expand our services and deepen our community connections.
Support Services Available
We are here for any woman who needs someone to talk to. Our support line, 066 7129100, is available 24/7, every day of the year. Whether it’s creating a safety plan, exploring options, or simply having someone to listen, our team is ready to help.
We know that every woman’s situation is unique. Some women may need support to leave a relationship, while others may need help staying safe within one. We work with women at their own pace and offer personalised advocacy and support, which can include crisis accommodation, court accompaniment, or simply providing a safe space to share what’s happening.
Expanding Services and Programmes
- We’ve opened a Centre for Healing from Coercive Control in Killarney, offering dedicated resources for women recovering from coercive relationships.
- Our ‘Own My Life’ programme, aimed at empowering women, has already been delivered five times.
- A Play Therapist is now part of our team, providing children with a safe space to express themselves and heal.
Collaborating for a Safer Future
We are actively working with other agencies in Kerry to develop coordinated responses and create safer environments for women and their children.
Gratitude to Our Supporters
We are deeply thankful to the people and businesses across Kerry who generously support us. Your contributions enable us to continue this essential work and make a difference in the lives of so many women and children.
If you or someone you know needs support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 066 7129100. We’re here to help.
